World History

Kacy Cigan

Staff Reporter

We asked one of Ironwood's teachers, Tim Beck, about World History. We asked him how learning history may help students in the future. Beck said “Learning about history from all parts of the world, certainly helps students gain different perspectives on how the world works and how its people have evolved over time” It is fair to say he is right. The Eagle’s Eye Newspaper then asked Mr. Beck about the potential job opportunities that World History may have to offer, he told us “Future jobs could include teaching, researchers, professors, and historians”, if you or a friend are interested in any of these jobs, maybe consider taking World History, whatever floats your boat. When asked about any special learning techniques that may be used in the class. Mr. Beck said “Our class focuses on a variety of learning techniques, and class topics often generate interesting class discussions.” Talking about stories related to the topic and class discussions is a good way to encourage learning and is beneficial towards future communication skills and needs, especially for jobs. When it comes to outstanding students, Beck had mentioned that all of his students; “... it is their ability to express their ideas verbally and with the written word that usually sets them apart.” Expression is important, it helps students understand one another, it is sure that we all can agree with this. When it comes to favorite units for Tim Beck to teach in world history, he has said that the French Revolution and World War II stand out. Finally when we asked Beck about his goals for the semester, he said “ My goal is to develop student’s writing and problem solving ability, along with their organization and time management skills.” Isn't that splendid?
