Winter Sports Review

Winter Sports are soccer, basketball, wrestling. The Eagle’s Eye is reviewing the winter sports this year. First is boy’s basketball. Coach Augustine was named this year’s 5A Northwest Region Coach of the year. The 5A Northwest Defensive player of the year is I’yar Shadowvine. The 5A Northwest Co- player of the year is Julius Williams. Honorable Mention and 2nd Team All- Region are Noah, Adonis, Jordan, Leonard. Also the boy’s varsity made it to the Open Division Elite 8.

Girl Basketball 2nd Team All-Region is Amya Johnson. Honorable Mentions are Alexis Villa, Anna Moses,Addison Monahan. The Eagle’s Eye asked Coach Henderson what were some goals you had this year. She said, “This year was to rebuild the culture of our program, so not much as the X’s and O’s or the wins and losses as much as just building a culture where we have athletes who are good people, have good character, good students and represent what it means to be a girls basketball player”. We also asked what are some goals for next year. She said, “I want to focus on the upcoming younger girls that we have in our program we lost six seniors this past season which obviously will be hard to move on from but we have a lot of younger girls who are willing to step into those shoes behind them who I know will do a really good job so I am looking forward to putting work into those younger girls’’.

Next sport is soccer. Coach Beck is the Region Coach of the year. boy’s varsity is 5A Runner up. All Region First Team Is LJ Moesohl, Bryan Romero, Josh Grandos, Ben Rouse, Roberto Picos. 2nd Team All- Region are Colin Beebe,Edgar Ocampo, Angel Cortez, Alan Castillo. All- Region Honorable Mention are Lucio Munoz, Isaiah valencia.

The girl’s soccer team made it to the playoffs after 8 years. “All-region Ford Ava Clark made second team all region and was leading scorer on the team Jules Michelle our goalie”.

Last sport is Wrestling. The Boys Wrestling team this year are Division 2 AIA Team Wrestling Championships. Julian Macias is state champion, won by 4-2. Pablo Macias is a 2 time state champion, won by 4-2. Markell Rivera-cain is a 3 time state champion. Pablo and Julian Macias are the first pair of brothers to win a state title together in Ironwood History. Good job to all the athletes. Amazing job to our wrestlers, boy’s soccer and boy’s basketball teams on making it to state!
