Winter Formal, "A Night in Hollywood"

"You gotta fight. For your right to party!-" Beastie Boys.

The New York rap rock band Beastie Boys could not have been more correct, and Ironwood did indeed fight for its right to party at Winter Formal on January 21st. This is the first Winter Formal dance overseen by the new head of National Honor Society, Mr. Patrick Alinsonorin- replacing departing overseer Ms. Michele Schiff. Winter Formal 23’s theme was A Night In Hollywood, reflecting the glitzy and glamorous lifestyles of Hollywood celebrities. To uphold this theme, stars, film reels and academy awards were hung around the school cafeteria and gymnasium. To top it all off, a red carpet was laid out with a massive balloon arch covering the entrance. Whilst the carpet was not authentic and made from paper, it did help to embrace the feeling of Hollywood at the dance- or at least until it was torn up due to it being stepped on by hundreds of partygoers.

Tickets were sold at twenty dollars apiece with a discount if cans were donated and/or tickets were purchased before the dance, NHS sold over 300 tickets that evening and made excess of 2,000.00 in revenue. Some say that this year’s Winter Formal serves as a comeback from the supposedly lackluster Winter In The Desert theme from last year. As a matter of fact, the Eagle’s Eye’s very own Devin Fowler was moonlighting at the dance as the bouncer due to his affiliation with the National Honor Society. Whatever the opinion of the dance, one thing is certain- it was a major victory for NHS and hopefully they will capitalize on it next year at Winter Formal 2024.
