Why should we walk 10k steps per day?
The majority of American people gain a lot of weight per year mostly due to food that they eat. Fast food and lack of movement pertain to this weight gain. During quarantine, the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of people worked from home and did not move around as much as before.
When people gain weight, they try any diet to lose fat; the first thing that people will try to do exercise such as running, HIIT(High Intensive Interval Training), weight training and other intense exercises. One thing that people do not think about is walking. It seems normal and too easy brit to lose weight, but it can help! Studies by Dr. Edward-Elmhurst show that walking 10k steps per day burns about 340 calories (about 27 minutes of running) which contributes to weight balance if you walk every day. Further research from EEHealth states, “Walking 10k per day helps decrease blood sugar and blood pressure, improve brain function, and boost mood”. This quote shows that walking 10k steps does not only help you lose weight but also helps you get healthier.
To sum up, walking is good exercise. It helps you in many ways, including physically and mentally. I suggest you start walking any number of steps that you can and then try to increase it to 10k. Doing it every day will help your long-term health.
