“Unhealthy” seems to be a controversial word as of recently.
Because of social media and a sudden awareness of emotions, the line has been blurred between being healthy and recognizing different body types. Different body types have been favored throughout history; being bigger was attractive because it was a sign of wealth and health, later on, being skinny and tall was beautiful, and more recently, curvier bodies have been acknowledged. In the past few years, all different body shapes and sizes have been considered. Usually, this topic is associated with women, but mens’ body types have been noticed, too. This is great for anybody with insecurities about their body however, there is a difference between recognizing peoples’ differences and celebrating being unhealthy.
Being unhealthy is usually paired with being obese which is not always the case. Good health has to do with taking care of yourself both mentally and physically. Your body is a temple and should be treated as such. This means eating well, doing physical activity of some sort, and constantly renewing your mind with good news and knowledge. If you are not taking care of yourself it is easy to fall into anxiety and depression. You can be physically exhausted and just overall tired. We all want to feel good about ourselves but we have to stop expecting it to just happen. Things like this do take work. Being happy with who you are all of the sudden is a scapegoat to get out of the work. Now, being happy with who you are is a wonderful thing, however, if you are using this as an excuse to not do the work to get better, then you will never feel as good as you could.
Everyone is tip-toeing around each other to make sure we all feel okay. This just creates lies and a lack of trust. As much as it hurts, the truth needs to be told. Again, celebrating everybody’s differences is great, but do not blur lines. Everyone needs the truth and if you are tip-toeing too, then you are only adding to the problem.
