What sport everybody is looking for in the spring season except “Track and Field”. Track and Field is one of the most popular sports in every high school. It is not all about running fast but it has a lot of branches such as distance, jumping, and throwing. Our Ironwood Track and Field is awesome. They win state and bring pride to Ironwood.

In this season we asked Mr. Banfield how Track & Field is this season so far, he answered “The season is starting off well so far. Right now, we are mainly in the General Prep Phase. Our coaching staff is amazing and very family oriented. We want to make sure all the athletes are good to go on and off of the field, not only physically but mentally. Our staff consists of: Distance- Coach Antal, Throws - Coach Light, High Jump - Coach Davis, Long/Triple Jump - Coach Kesuna "Coach K", Sprints- Coach Leah”. Then we asked him about any outstanding members, he responded “As far as any standouts, we have Jaxon Zimmerman and Jasmine Haskell in which both had a great 2022 season. At last year's State Championship, Jasmine placed 2nd in the 400m, 9th in the 200m, and was a member of our 4x100 relay team that placed 7th as part of our 4x100 relay team. Jaxon Zimmerman placed 6th in the 3200m and 10th in the 1600m at the state championship. Sophomore Milani Manino-Faison is returning this season. There are a few that seem as if they will have a solid season. Holly Button, Acie Metcalf, Emrey Williams, Hannah Hurley, Jaylee Spivey, Ayden Sullivan, Josh Keough, and Alyas Winston are some that I can point out at the moment. Coach Light has a nice solid group of throwers and he is doing an amazing job. We haven't had this many throwers for a long time so it is exciting to see. We asked Mr. Banfield about any trouble or hard times this season, he said “I wouldn't call it hard times, but we've had to make adjustments.” We also asked Mr. Banfield about any requirements to join for next year, he said “Requirements to join track is simple and straightforward. Get all your paperwork done, pay your fees and come prepared to work. If you work hard, you will make the cut. There are high expectations with our program however we tend to have fun while working hard.” Lastly, we ask Mr. Banfield about any future events he is looking forward to, he responded “I am really looking forward to the 83rd Annual Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational. Some of the best from across the nation show up at this meeting so the performances are high quality. It will also be a true test for the Ironwood athletes that qualify.”

Eventually, If you interested in running in every way. Make sure you join our Ironwood Track and Field team.
