The Eagle’s Eye Newspaper interviewed Ms. Garza and her class about our school’s donation pantry. Seven students help her run it. Georgia Shreeve, Derrick Dew, Jonathan Yazzie, Jedidiah Byars, Mason Henderson, Anya Brasgalla and Andrew Oestreich. When asked if they participated in any donation events, they said, “Yes multiple, we donate to schools and theater schools. We created donation boxes for each of the feeders. Over the holidays we donated 20 or so for our Ironwood Community and four to five for each theater school and sold them in the teachers parking lot.” When we asked them about “a main leader”, they agreed on saying that as students, they are their own leader, they know what they are personally doing and are no strangers to collaborating with one-another. “At the end of the day we are our own persons. It is not a dominant competition” Ms.Garza overall runs the show. When the Eagle’s Eye asked how often the Pantry donates, they said, “It is never anything specific, usually we get a call from the school saying we need a food box, make it and go or someone here (at school, student, staff, nurse) might say, or send an email if they are in the Ironwood community.” They usually make the box and send it to the nurses office at the end of the day. When we asked about the Pantry’s overall purpose they said, “To better the community overall.” For those who struggle and worry about putting food on the table, or getting simple hygienic needs, the pantry has got you covered, they want to help, they want to give back to the community. Ms. Garza says that there is one thing that her students don’t know. They do not know who is getting the box. They sometimes get students from this school who need the extra help. Names and families are kept private. Her class just makes the boxes, or fill up the students backpack at the end of the day. The class keeps records of how many boxes are made, but they keep the names classified out of respect. When it comes to donating, the Ironwood pantry donates more than just food. They donate backpacks, hygienic products, prom clothing, normal clothing and even bicycles for those in need. When we asked about any requirements to receive products from the pantry, they said “Just ask. We don’t judge. Come at your own time or after school.” All you have to do is just ask a trusted teacher/adult to stop by. When asked how they receive donations for their pantry, they said, “You can just drop stuff off here (at room 616) or the office” Remember around Thanksgiving there was a food drive, all the food donated from us(the people of the school) its goes straight to the pantry, and straight to those people in need. Our last question for the Pantry was where their donations end up going, they said, they simply go to other schools, and people’s houses. Overall, we can all agree that Ironwood’s pantry is a phenomenal class/club. They do good deeds to better people’s lives, but are highly underrated and need to be recognized for this. If you need help with food, clothes, hygienics and other needs, do not hesitate, do not be embarrassed to visit Ms.Garza in room 616. When people need help, she and her spectacular class will not hesitate to come to your aid. You are just as important as everyone else. For others, don’t be shy to donate when you can/want, you will change people’s lives, for the better good.
