Teacher's Wages

It is well known that teachers do a lot for their students. In recent years with COVID-19 teachers had to go the extra mile for their students.

Doctors save people's lives but teachers teach us from such a young age. Teachers deserve a raise, here's why.

During the pandemic teachers had to learn to teach on technology. Teachers had to be able to reach young kids and navigate lots of platforms.

Teachers have to teach in masks all day long. It is difficult for students to understand their teacher and vise versa at times. Masks are important to stop the spread of COVID-19 but they can be hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable at times.

At the height of the pandemic, teachers were asked to constantly sanitize their classrooms, keep students socially distanced, and constantly had to remind students of mask wearing. Now that masks are not mandatory, quarantining is not mandatory, and cleaning guidelines are not strict anymore, teachers lives are easier.

Parents were the teachers' worst experience. Parents constantly expect perfection from their kids teachers. They also have to put up with parents' constant judging when they are not in the situation of a teacher.

While being a student in the pandemic, I have had to always deal with constant quarantines. Never knowing when I am going to be sent home and miss school is stressful. It is hard communicating over and over again with teachers by email and asking a thousand questions to clarify instructions or any hard times. By then when you get back to school you miss so many notes and other things it is impossible to ever catch up. Also teachers have a hard time planning lessons around absent students and they have to make decisions on if they should teach certain things with so many kids missing.

Many kids disrespect their teachers and can make their job ten times more difficult than it needs to be especially in these odd times. We can all agree being mean to teachers choosing to go the extra mile is not necessary.

After these many reasons, teachers deserve a much higher pay for the work they put in. Teachers do not get paid for the many hours they work off the “school day” and it needs to be addressed. Image Credit:Wix.com
