Teacher Feature: Mr. Light!

We have a few new teachers at Ironwood this year and one of the wonderful new additions to our campus is Mr. Light, who is teaching history.

This is Mr. Light’s third year of teaching. Although this is his first year here at Ironwood, his first two years were spent at Centennial. When asked about his experience here so far, Mr. Light said it has been great and he has loved the environment so far. He really enjoys our Eagle spirit and how we participate in certain activities. One example he shared is when people actually dressed up on the Friday before Halloween. He expected people to shy away from dressing up and was surprised about how many people dressed up without having to be forced.

Surprisingly, Mr. Light did not originally want to be a teacher. Before teaching he tried selling cars. Mr. Light stated that this did not work out for him because he did not enjoy it at all. He could not stand selling people cars that he knew were not the best quality, so he took the moral high ground and quit to find another job. He realized he would much rather help people every day, but he did not know what he wanted to do after school. Soon, though, Mr. Light figured he could try teaching. He said it was an easy thing to just jump into after school since he felt the need to really connect and support his students.

On top of becoming a new teacher at Ironwood, Mr. Light is also coaching Football, along with Mr. Rizzo who actually introduced him to Ironwood. During the winter sports, Mr. Light has also committed to coaching Track and Field.

While teaching, Mr. Light wants to make sure students understand where we come from, as well as why we have the rights that we do now opposed to other places. Thanks to his position as a history teacher, Mr. Light has a great opportunity to educate students on how it is the U.S. and other countries have developed. Respect is also a big thing for Mr. Light. You show him respect and he will show it right back. Mr. Light pointed out the importance of behaving according to the rules during his interview. Without them, he says, there would be chaos and a lack of advancement. While he believes this, he also wants students to have a good time, they just have to get their work done first.

Mr. Light is an amazing teacher and a great addition to Ironwood high school. He is kind and has a great understanding behind his teaching. If you happen to see him around campus, make sure to say hi to Mr. Light.
