Staff Reporter

If you are looking for a talented and kind-hearted teacher, stop by room 610 and visit Ms. Kuniski the ceramics teacher of Ironwood High School. On this teacher feature, learn more about the wonderful Ms. Kuniski, who likes to be called Miss K, and her background as a ceramics teacher. She talks about her past and experience on how and why she is in the field of art education. Let us begin!

Miss K stated in an interview that she became a ceramics teacher because she got divorced and needed a job to support her children. Since she has had experience as a paid artist since 8th grade, she decided to take a ceramics class in college and enjoyed it so much it inspired her to take a position as a ceramics teacher at Ironwood. Not only that, Miss K admits that she plans to be at Ironwood for about three more years before she retires. In fact, according to Miss K, she has been a ceramics teacher for about 20 years now. Interestingly, if she did not take a position as an art teacher, Miss K mentioned she would have probably would have become a nurse as that was a previous dream of hers, but later on, decided against it so she would not have to leave her kids alone at daycare during her studies.

One of Miss K’s favorite things about being an art teacher is getting to work on what she loves, art! In an interview, she also stated “the paperwork and the grading are my least favorite part about teaching. My most favorite part is getting to do art with my students.” The reason why Miss K loves ceramics so much is that she loves the feeling of the clay and finds the fact that she can turn dirt into a beautiful work of art as fascinating.

Miss K was a pleasant teacher to interview and she teaches probably the most requested elective and for a good reason too. She enjoys what she teaches and is a talented individual so stop by and say hello because her class is one of the best classes here at Ironwood.
