What Are Sport Managers? They spearhead public relations between athletes, coaches, other athletic personnel, and media. Accounting for team travel plans, Mariah Daniel is a sport manager for Ironwood Girl Basketball. She has been a sports manager for two years now at Ironwood. We asked her some questions about her being a sports manager. we asked why are you a sports manager, she said “The reason I became a sports manager was because I wanted to be surrounded by basketball and spend time with my sister”. We also asked about why did you choose basketball to be , she a sport manager responded “ I chose basketball to be a manager of because I grew up playing it. I [understood] everything and it was just a given”. As a sports manager there are some jobs that you need to do. When I asked her what those jobs are, she said ”What I do as a manager is a lot. I organize the jerseys for the upcoming season. I make sure that all the [basketball] balls are well taken care of. I [operate] the shot clock at [at Ironwood] official basketball game, I do the official book at away games I take attendance to make sure everyone is accounted for and safe. I help set up the many senior nights to come. I also take stats at every single game. I help with drills and basically just do anything, my coach tells me too”. Overall a sports manager has a lot of jobs. At the end we asked what is her favorite part about all this. She said “My favorite part of being of being [a] manager is giving the girls advice that their coach can not, and being honest and going out to eat after a win or lose and always having someone to talk to and helping the younger girls, which is definitely one of my favorite parts and just vibe in all”. In the end the sports manager is not an athlete but they are a part of the team.
