Mr. Akers Chosen As Teacher of the Month By Student Council

Every month a teacher is rightfully picked as teacher of the month by student council.. This decision is voted on by students and this month Mr. Akers has been chosen.

If you did not know, Mr. Akers is Ironwood’s theatre teacher. He started this journey with Ironwood in 1986 and plans on working here until it is not fun for him anymore. He has been dedicated to this job for many years and it is great to hear that he is still having fun even when he has done most of what he does plenty of times before. So much hard work has been put into this campus by him for as long as he has been working here.

Almost everyone here at Ironwood has seen at least one play from Akers. Many different productions have been put on throughout the years, some more than once. These were achieved by the hard work of Akers and his students, which seem to always rise to any challenge they face. His personal favorite was one that he produced years ago. It was, in his own words, a “masterpiece about Anne Frank”. He said that “the students rose to the challenge and it was phenomenal”. Mr. Akers is always very proud of what his students accomplish and he would not be able to do what he does without them. I am sure that he has encountered plenty of difficulties each year he has taught here, but he clearly always pulls it off. He says that every year there comes a new set of challenges, even with plays that he has done a couple times previously.

As he has worked here for many years, you could assume that Mr. Akers knows what he is talking about. He has many wise words that he could share with someone who needs it. One he has shared is “If you are thinking about doing something do it”. If you have been feeling hesitant towards doing something that could benefit you, then you might as well try it. Do not be scared to get something wrong, even Akers said “I don’t know everything and I am not afraid to admit that. There are things I don’t know and I research and learn myself”. You learn something new everyday.

Mr. Akers is a very kind, hardworking teacher and he definitely deserved this teacher of the month. If you see him around campus say hi, I am sure he would appreciate it.
