Milestone Moments

Upperclassmen are a minority of people who have been affected by the spread of COVID-19 pandemic but the milestone moments that they are missing are still important. Traditional assemblies, senior nights proms, and graduations are currently all canceled but substitute activities are being planned in their place.

Virtual proms are scattered across the internet with famous hosts trying their hand at DJ-ing. John Krasinski hosted via a live stream on Friday, people posted videos in last year's dresses and suits to dance with their families and The Office star. Zoom is hosting theirs on April twenty-fifth and is asking students to register online. Bigger events are being planned for after the stay at home order is lifted. These will be non-traditional replacements but will provide an exciting replacement for a school dance.

Austen Marrow, a senior at Chandler High School is working with a few businesses and venues to host Ptomchella. It is a two-day celebration featuring DJs, live bands, food trucks, door prizes and giveaways, and a fireworks show. Morrow says his motivation for planning it was to give "... people the chance to make these [memories] to go on with their lives and bring that closure and that high school experience to an end”. The event is scheduled for July 17th and 18th. Tickets start at $70.00 per day and will be raised to $80 on June 1st, find out more at promchellaaz.com. There are other concerts such as the summer nights festival that are targeted towards seniors too.

Ironwood is celebrating seniors by posting pictures and announcing scholarships on social media and the eagle senior page is posting plans of students, acting as a senior night.

Although these things are not ideal it is amazing to see how people have not given up on their community and are coming together to find solutions to these unexpected problems.
