Late Start on April 6th for Testing

Irma Romero

Staff Reporter

It is almost time for the AzM2 Writing test and ACT (paper version)! On April 6, 2021, the AzM2 Writing test will be available for all sophomores. The paper version of the ACT will be available for all juniors. There is no cost for the ACT; any juniors who take it will be saving fifty-dollars. According to Winwardacademy.com, the key takeaway is that over half of colleges report that test scores on the ACT or SAT are of “considerable importance” in the admissions decision. Nearly 28% consider the test scores of “moderate importance.” The ACT is very important when looking into colleges and this is a great way to practice.

For any virtual learners who want to sign up for any of the two tests, call the front office and let them know you will be in attendance to take the test no later than Thursday, April 1.

There will be a late start for all non-test takers (9th & 12th graders). For non-test takers, there will still be bus transportation available. Buses will be at the bus stops promptly 4 hours and 35 minutes after the average pick-up time and arriving on campus at or near 11:35. Buses for sophomores and juniors, who are test takers, will be at regular time.

Students testing locations will be posted by the cafeteria on the day of the test. Finally, masks are still required for all test takers and staff on campus.

Some tips and advice for any test-takers taking the AzM2 and the ACT are first and foremost important tip is to get plenty of rest. According to Huffpost.com, research consistently shows that taking the time to sleep before an exam will benefit your test scores. Rather than getting four or five hours of sleep because you are staring at notes that you will most likely not remember, go to bed early and get a full night of rest.

Another important tip is to bring a snack and water, just because Ironwood does not provide this. Not only will snacks help keep your stomach from growling, but eating snacks beforehand can help some people avoid feeling hungry and unfocused. After the tests, there will be free lunch provided for all test takers.

The last tip is for any students who wear smartwatches or those who often have any technology on them. It is required that you put these items away in your bag or backpack during the test. Some teachers may forget to inform you of this so make sure that it is in the back of your mind. If you have anything technology on you (other then what is okayed by the rules for your test) your test can be invalidated. Good luck to all test-takers!
