This year has already been chaotic to begin with and now it was released that Japan has been dumping tons of radioactive water into the ocean. This sounds crazy and has left many people filled with rage as it can cause a lot of damage.
It has been nearly a decade since the Fukushima disaster in 2011. After these many years, recently the government made a decision to release radioactive water that is currently being stored away at the nuclear power plant. It has been stated that this treated water is going to go into the Pacific Ocean. Understandably, many have been very opposed to this decision of where the water should go. These people include fishermen and those who help to work towards a better environment. Supposedly, Japan has been considering doing this for several months.
This action will cause many issues in Japan and its neighboring countries. Once the water is dumped into the ocean, may no longer buy seafood from there as the fish would have been in said water. This will make fishermen lose their jobs as there will be no reason for them to fish if nobody is buying it. Then that could also cause another set of problems. As any other bad decision, it would cause a devastating domino effect. Many of Japan's businesses will be damaged when this action goes through.
People are wondering why they are wanting to go through with this. It is very harmful and there seems to be so many more options. To put it simply, they said it was the easiest way. This statement had people filled with aggravation. The fact that they would rather take the easy way out instead of finding a way that would not risk so many seemingly unfortunate outcomes. This has all been a big scare for everyone but Tomohiko Taniguchi, a previous advisor to the Japanese prime, claimed that there should be no issue at all.
He said that the water will be treated more before being dumped into the Pacific. Nobody knows if this is really true, so people are still worried.
