The wrestling tournament is exciting so far; the Ironwood tournament was held on Saturday, Jan. 28th. This season, the Eagle’s Eye newspaper interviewed Coach Flanigan about how the wrestling tournament was going so far.

When we asked Coach Flanigan what members he found outstanding he responded, “...Markell Rivera-Cain (Senior) undefeated returning State Champion, Pablo Macias (Junior) returning State Champion top 3 at every tournament, AJ Lopez (Freshmen) has placed top 3 at every tournament, Jordan Beauvais (Junior) top placer at every tournament”. The next question we asked was about any trouble or hard times this season and he answered, “Yes, we have had challenges. We have never had our entire team on the mat yet. Between injuries, sickness, and other challenges we have yet to be at full strength. Even so we have been highly successful while not at full strength”. We also asked him which tournament was his favorite one and why and he said, “I am hoping my favorite tournament is the State tournament. If we have a good weekend anything is possible at the State tournament for us this season”. We also asked him about any future events he is looking forward to. He responded, “The Eagle Invitational Jan 27th and 28th; Sectionals at Ironwood on Friday Feb 11th”. Lastly, we asked him how the first wrestling tournament was, he answered, “Last weekend was the 26th annual Eagle Invitational. Our wrestlers competed hard as always. Wrestlers who medaled were Lillian Read (4th), AJ Lopez (4th), JJ Beauvais (6tth), Julian Macias (2nd), Jordan Beauvais (2nd), Xavier Lerma (1st), Pablo Macias (1st), Daniel McCarthy (1st), Markell Rivera-Cain (1st), and once again Markell won the Outstanding Wrestler Award”.

To sum up, this year's wrestling tournament is doing wonderful. They have many good wrestlers, and they are all looking forward to the state competition and winning the state championship. They have practiced hard with the help of Coach Flanigan.
