Band is a special part of Ironwood high school, adding something special to every football game, assembly and our community as a whole. Band reached great heights this year and it is essential to recognize that. Before the school year even started the marching band was hard at work during band camp. Working through fundamentals for hours and having what felt like never ending days. Though it was difficult everyone putting in their all setting off a killer start to the marching season. Many rehearsals and run throughs went into the year’s marching show titled The Mountains Are Calling. This hard work was evident as the band made it to semi finals. Throughout the season every performance got better, and they ended it off with a great run. While this was important, it is also important to recognize the fun and spirit the band brought playing in the stands at the games and assemblies. Once the marching season was over the band got right into concert band. This year the band has had two main ensembles, the wind ensemble and symphonic band. These bands have worked incredibly hard to get to the level of skill they have gotten to. Earlier in the semester the bands participated in the AREA band festival. Though a nerve-wracking experience, the bands did exceptionally well with symphonic band earning an excellent and wind ensemble a superior. With these ratings the bands qualified for this year’s state band festival. These great achievements through the year could not have been done without Mr. Salcido, Ironwood’s band director. Sadly, he is departing with Ironwood after this year. He has led the band to success each of the four years he has been a part of Ironwood’s community. He has put his all into the program and has created such a loving band family. From all of the hard work he put in to making a great band a thank you is definitely needed. If you see him thank him for all the time, he has put in. Thank you Mr. Salcido and thank you band for many amazing years. Level of skill they have gotten to.
