“Cheer” is one single word that inspires a lot of girls in high school to practice hard to be a cheerleader. Ironwood’s Cheer is known as one of the best cheers in Peoria Unified School District. They work so hard to perform in every performance both inside and outside Ironwood. This year, cheer is doing so well that our Eagle’s Eye Newspaper staff interviewed Ms. May with some questions. When we asked Ms. May how cheer is doing this semester so far, she answered “This semester cheer is doing really well. We have spent a lot of time getting ready for Nationals, which is now complete. Our focus for the rest of the season is promoting activities/sports around campus going on and preparing for the spring assembly.” We asked Ms. May about any future events that she is looking for, she said “We are preparing for the spring assembly and preparing for end of the year activities, including our banquet and tryouts for the following season.” Then we asked Ms. May about outstanding members, she responded “We have quite a few we have Sophia Cerda who just signed with the ACU stunt team, Breanna Wells who is about to sign with Ottawa University. We also have Gaby Montalvo who has competed in every category in every competition this season, other stand outs are all our seniors that have been great this year, led by captains Brooke and Gaby. Our groups coming in are just ridiculously talented. Ironwood Spiritline is going to look very good these next couple of years.” We also asked Ms. May how the national competition was this year, she answered “It was cold and wet, but amazing, these kids have worked so hard to get to this point. I am so proud of them. They take every obstacle and push through. It has been a great year.” Lastly, we asked Ms. May about requirements to join for next year. She said “Requirements for next year are jumps, tumbling, motions, at the clinics the candidates learn a dance and a cheer that is performed in front of a panel of judges. They are also required to turn in three teacher evaluations that equal up to 75 points toward their tryout score.” Eventually, Eagle’s Eye Newspaper staff were so proud of our spiritline so much for always working hard and did a wonderful job in every performance, especially national competition. Being a cheerleader is not easy with much pressure but also fun!
