How to Celebrate Quarantine Birthdays!

Trinity Clark

Assistant Editor-In-Chief

One of the hardest parts of this time of social distancing is knowing that important events like birthdays are coming up but we cannot do anything to celebrate these important days. However, this way of thinking is far too negative! Let us get creative and make these birthdays to remember!

It is true that having a big party is definitely not recommended right now, so instead friends and family can think of less traditional ways to celebrate their loved one’s birthdays. The first and most straightforward way to celebrate a “quarantine birthday” is by delivering a special made package to their house. I did this recently for one of my friends Luigui. First, I answered a couple of questions such as: What is their favorite color? Favorite snack, drink, clothes brand, dessert, book, TV show, or movie? Do they like digital or framed photos? After going through the answers my family and I collected some framed photos for him, a bag of hot Cheetos, his favorite Dunkin drink, and a phone accessory. We delivered it to his house and recorded his reaction. Of course, we would have love to have come inside, but our families felt this was the best solution and it was a lot of fun to prepare! This sort of package can make your loved one feel special despite the fact that they cannot be with you.

One way you can make this delivery even more special is to create a car line. Each car can be decorated with birthday messages to the loved one and people can wave outside the car while the person watches from the sidewalk. It will still feel like they are being celebrated and it might even lighten the spirits of their neighbors!

If all those involved are not sick, it might also be a nice idea to gather a group of four or five people together for one’s birthday in a car. Then, take the birthday person to their favorite restaurant and order some delivery to eat. After eating, the group can head to any supermarket like Walmart or Target and ask the birthday person to pick out their favorite item as a gift. These activities can all be done while social distancing and safety precautions can be taken by having decorated birthday-themes masks and hand sanitizers on hand during the event.

Birthdays are important and though it takes a bit more thought, we can still make them special while staying safe!
