Ironwood's Girls Volleyball is continuing to practice despite the difficulties brought on by COVID-19 but are faced with uncertainties no one can answer
There has been a lot of uncertainty with the fall sports seasons this year due to the continuing circumstances we are in. Although girls' volleyball is moving forward, the season is going to look a lot different. New state and district regulations are requiring all players and coaches to wear face coverings and sanitize hands and touched surfaces regularly. Head coach Lisa Lopez says, “So far it’s been an easy transition. The district gave us specific guidelines and I think we are all implementing those very well.” Of course, with new things comes some challenges. “There are a lot of uncertainties like what if somebody gets sick? Are games going to be cancelled or will we all have to isolate. Also, because we have not yet been able to scrimmage and tryouts are around the corner. And we already know that tournaments have been put on hold so that’s going to be the main challenge,” Says Lopez.
This is really impacting for the graduating seniors, who are now at their last year with the program. They are going to have a one-of-a-kind last season. Lopez says, “The one thing I want the seniors to take away from this year is how to face adversity. I think that is a key topic we always talk about and if we can get through this, we can become better human beings.” Tryouts are expected to happen on the 31st of August and the season will continue to progress from there.
