Financial Algebra is an easy math class. That is right, you read it correctly, an easy math class. Not only is this class easy, but it is one of the most important classes! Finally a class that talks about important, real life material ranging from doing taxes, to car insurance, to even retirement plans! The Eagles Eye’s Newspaper team interviewed one of the Financial Algebra teachers, Mr. Steve Chamberlain. When it comes to goals for the semester, Chamberlain said he would want for, “Everyone to pass the class” and for “Everyone to learn financial things, not just for school, but for real life too” some of those units being “Employee Benefits”, “Social Security and Medicare” to “Income Tax Forms” and a handful of other materials. How does Mr. Chamberlain plans to accomplish those goals?
Obviously you are going to be taught if you take the class, but there's a personal twist to it. He will tell and share personal stories and experiences regarding the curriculum. We believe that these stories are a way to make all of us acknowledge truth, and what to look for. Next time you see a “buy one get one free” sale, there's a chance that the second item may not even be free depending on where you shop. When it comes to teaching a favorite unit Mr. Chamberlain says the Car and Auto Insurance is a favorite to teach, but why? “I have had so much experience in it, so I feel like I can share my knowledge with you guys about insurance…”. Lastly, what Chamberlain likes about Financial Algebra is “I’ve realized that my passion is finance, I just have a good mindset for it. I like getting good deals, and for others to get good deals… I hate when people get ripped off” All in all, if you are interested in how to do your taxes or calculate your yearly finances or if you just want an easy math credit, maybe you might consider it, whatever you want to do though.
