“Sleep is the golden chain that ties our health and our bodies together” -Thomas Dekker

The most valuable currency in the world is sleep, pure, refreshing, undisturbed sleep. As high schoolers we know this and that is why we sleep so much, that and school starting at 0720. Speaking of that, there is a problem among teenagers and that is lack of sleep, despite popular belief, sleep is very important. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, teens need 8-10 hours of sleep each night, if you are reading this then chances are you have a sleep problem. Younger children require more than twelve hours of sleep, that is probably for brain development but have you seen the energy little ones have? It seems like the sleeping schedules should be switched up. Regardless, plenty of sleep is great for your health as it boosts immunity, lowers weight, lessens health risks, etc. But obviously everyone has sleeping problems which can range from caffeine, alcohol, stress, anxiety, etc. Every teenager has at least a problem with one of these, I hope for the reader it is not alcohol. And beware of sleep apnea, if you think you have it consult your physician as that can KILL you, the downside is having to use a CPAP machine for a few months. Outside of that, to have a wonderful sleep make sure to avoid large meals, alcohol or caffeine before bed and absolutely NO electronics according to the CDC. Also get plenty of exercise as that can help with sleep, and when going to sleep make sure your room is dark and silent- use a microwaved sleep mask if you have to. Now that you know this, follow the advice and prepare for the best sleep of your life, you will wake up the next morning feeling more relaxed and recharged than you ever have in your life.
