FBLA. First. Second. Medals Everywhere.
One of FBLA’s supervisors, and Ironwood’s Economics teacher, Mrs. Turner was interviewed by Eagle’s Eye staff to get a glimpse into the club’s successes this semester. FBLA has just returned from Regionals with almost all of their members placing first and/or second in their chosen competing areas. Turner says that FBLA’s goal nearing the end of this semester consists of going to State and qualifying for Nationals from there. She says the final goal to achieve is to get as many people to Nationals as they can and continue being successful. When asked what members Turner found particularly outstanding this semester, she said, “Lucas Szokol ended up winning all of the events he was in”.
Lucas, senior, is FBLA’s president this year. He has been a part of FBLA since the sixth grade and has reflected on what the club has meant to him during his academic career. “I’ve had a wonderful experience in FBLA.” He says, in more recent years, “It helps my personal skills and personal development”.
Since coming back from the club’s Regional competitions, Lucas has had time to look back and review what happened. “I was pretty happy coming from State last year. I got three second place [medals]... definitely getting over that hump and getting three first place [medals] was a good feeling.”
Although most know that FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America, Lucas says, “It’s a lot more than just business. It’s about making connections between yourself and other people”. Being in a club like FBLA where financial and business values are prevalent it is important to tie into all of that the significance of personal growth in any and every career. FBLA has managed to find this balance, both on and off campus. “We all come together to compete as a group and then compete individually…[we] come back together as a group to support each other”, says Lucas.
Now, the goal is to go to State and move on to Nationals. We are all rooting for you FBLA!
