Humans are creatures of intellect and change. Critical thinking skills allow us to overcome any obstacle, even if the obstacle is not apparent. It is easy to go day to day performing the same tasks and your normal routine but it does not promote growth, delving into uncomfortable scenarios and questioning your surroundings is what stimulates change. Now more than ever it is easier to become stuck in one place mentally, with media at our fingertips and the ability to scroll endlessly thinking for yourself just does not happen. There was a time before any form of media, before news and before educational institutions. This time is what propelled people into the intelligent and introspective people we can be.
The most common and well known philosophers are from ancient Greece. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and many like them asked and answered the questions most would not think of. For Socrates his work was targeted towards mortality and the life we lead. He would often refer to a secular god unlike the rest from his time who believed in several gods and their divine power. Socrates led his life the way he intended and paved the way for a sense of individualism. Plato had an even simpler question, what is good and what is evil? What is right and what is wrong? The environment you grow up in and the influences you have around you strongly dictate your thoughts on what is moral and what is immoral. Plato led bouts of research over philosophy, he had students and peers, all of whom worked together to learn. Aristotle was a student of Plato, Aristotle pushed the limits to what at the time was considered normal. His research and philosophy was biologically and mathematically oriented, he pioneered many outlooks on life. As opposed to why something is, Aristotle focused on how something is.
While philosophy and its practices are not dead, the need and innovation of them seems to be. With any question you could ask there is an instant answer that anyone can find. Thinking is necessary, questioning is important, and going against what is normal is essential. Why and how things are, needs to be looked into more often.
