Colleg= Stability

College is a controversial topic in today’s society. College used to be something that the majority of young adults strived for. It was an opportunity to have valid credentials leading to a stable career and ultimately retirement. College fees have also risen significantly since the “good ol’ days”. While percentages may vary between different colleges, the numbers are higher than anyone even thinking about college would like to see. In some cases the fees have inflated upwards of 100%.

School is important to the Government and that is clear considering there are laws about needing to be in school. However, in the current climate many people, especially those with degrees, are finding that schooling after high school will not benefit them when weighing the costs. The expectations of degrees and education that employers and companies have are also rising which makes having a bachelor’s degree look common. People are working harder academically than ever before to reach unrealistic standards of a job that should not require the credentials it does.

College does have advantages. Aside from having degrees and higher self esteem than before, college offers paths to stable careers and possibly economic stability. This all sounds great until realization hits and you see people with sought after degrees making minimum wage at a fast-food restaurant. Colleges are still effective because people want to learn and constantly better themselves in terms of knowledge.

Again, this is all great, but the financial and mental drain that college degrees now come with is not as advantageous as it is marketed to be. All of the overwhelming work begs the question: Is college really worth it? No one should be discouraged from wanting to go to college. Even I want to go to college eventually. It really is a great concept that can be worthwhile for some individuals. Nevertheless, it is vital to take note of the benefits and detriments colleges now have to offer. You make your future whether that means going to college or not.
