“No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.” -Julia Child.

The great Julia Child is correct in her statement that one must learn to be a great cook in order to become one, here at Ironwood that vision is put into practice. Many know it as Culinary Club but the culinary program’s true name is Culinary CTSO because it is more than a club, honestly, it is not a club at all- it is a movement. Ironwood’s culinary program has existed since the founding of the school in 1986, however, at that time it was another part of home economics. In the mid-2000s, the culinary program splintered from the long decadent home economics program and became the Culinary CTSO that we know today. The current leader of Culinary CTSO is Ironwood’s very own Chef Langenbach who has led the club since 2017, under his guidance the Culinary CTSO has vastly expanded beyond what it once was. Chef Langenbach’s goal is “To continue the progress we have made, attract more passionate young chefs, see more culinary scholarships awarded to our chefs, and to hopefully one day have a new kitchen”. Culinary CTSO will be competing at the Taste of the NFL charity event which will donate millions to nutrition programs across the nation. Today’s food at the coffee bar will be Roasted Lemon and Artichoke Chicken over Fries, next Wednesday it will be Patty Melts due to an excess of bread. Let it be known in this article that Chef Langenbach leads a noble cause, not to simply teach students how to cook or to lead a club, but to mentor the next generation of chefs. Because Culinary CTSO is not a club, it is the future of cooking.
