Celebrating Different Religions During The Global Quarantine

Trinity Clark

A place of comfort for many people is the church, temple, or other religious building they attend. During these trying times many may find it even more unnerving that they cannot congregate for religious activities. Perhaps some peace can be felt by knowing that there are still many ways you can participate in your religion.

Many churches around the valley have set up online sermons and other services to reach out to their communities at home. By checking out the church's website one can find out at what times the sermons will premiere and on what platform they will do so. There are many other online resources for a variety of religions as well. Catholics can go to USCCB.org for mass readings.

The Holy Month of Ramadan has begun for many Muslims across the world, though it may look different than previous years. According to Adela Suliman in "Muslims begin unusual Ramadan", many mosques across the globes have been closed during this time. While Ramadan would usually encourage large groupings of people to celebrate, this year many are looking online and on apps like Zoom to find communion.

Time of self-isolation is called "retreat" in Buddhism as stated by Lama Willa B. Miller from lionsroar.com. This website offers many resources for Buddhist looking to find compassion during these times. These include "almost a million pages and... over 120,000 hours of video teachings."

Hindus are also experiencing a great time of transition during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hinduism may be considered a way of life rather than a religion, but this article wanted to touch base on happenings surrounding Hindus. They would have celebrated the God Ram's birthday this month during Rav Navami. However, temples are closed and in India (which has a large population of Hindus) both government officials and monks are encouraging everyone to pray and celebrate at home.

It is extremely unfortunate that many people’s comfort has suddenly had to take new form as we can no longer celebrate our own religion the way we may want. Whatever you believe in or even if you do not have a certain belief, The Eagles Eye Newspaper sincerely wishes you are doing well. We can at least take comfort in knowing we are this together and that eventually we can join together soon.
