Behind the Scenes Staff: Mrs. Holmes

Mathew Futch

Staff Reporter

Every day, we walk around our beautiful campus and ignore the staff who work behind the scenes here at Ironwood. This week, our Athletic and Assistant principal's secretary, Mrs. Holmes, was interviewed by the Eagles Eye’s newspaper.

Mrs. Holmes has been in our district for twenty-three years, though the first fourteen years were at Centennial Mrs. Holmes originally volunteered at Centennial with her kids until she was offered a position at Ironwood. When she moved to Ironwood, she worked in our Bookstore for a year before being moved over to her current job.

Mrs. Holmes, when asked what the positives are for working at Ironwood, did not even hesitate a second to say how much she loves Ironwood, the staff, and the students. As for the challenges, though, she said the amount of paperwork she gets is very repetitive.

Her retirement plan is to retire in two years to have twenty-five years of work to make retirement much easier for herself. Though her goal is to get through day to day and try to get things back to normal.

Mrs. Holmes was born and raised in Arizona, and she even graduated from Peoria High School. Her parents still even own a hardware store that they have owned since back then. She is very familiar and has been involved with the district from a young age. Another thing Mrs. Holmes absolutely loves is all her kids and her lovely grandkids. She has been very engaged in her kids’ lives and her grandkids’ lives. Two of her grandkids are even in the Peoria district. She also has been in a happy marriage for over forty years! To give you an idea the average American marriage has lasted eight years according to www.creditdonkey.com, which is a large reason why Mrs. Holmes finds pride in the fact.

To conclude this interview, Mrs. Holmes was an amazing individual to interview, she has an amazing personality and it is easy to see how much she loves working here at Ironwood. There can not be one athlete on campus that has never heard of her as she has done a lot for each and every one of them. So on behalf of the Eagles Eye, I would like to say thank you for supporting our athletics program and helping our principals Mrs. Holmes.
