Behind the Scenes Staff: Meet the Bookstore Ladies

Mathew Futch

Staff Reporter

Everyday, we walk around our beautiful campus and ignore the staff who work behind the scenes here at Ironwood. Not many students see the bookstore here at campus or acknowledge the people that work inside the bookstore, but they definitely should. Mrs. Harris and Ms. Nesbit have been working in the bookstore as a pair for almost 10 years here at Ironwood in the bookstore.

Their job is to support the community, the staff, the students mainly through finances. They supply us with lockers, books, new ID cards, parking passes, and even keep track of lost items. They process these things through the system, so students can get their payments done. Mrs. Harris is the manager in the bookstore and Ms. Nebit is the assistant to Mrs. Harris.

Mrs. Harris back in 2006 applied for as a part-time assistant at Ironwood and got the job. Almost 10 years ago she took the manager position when her Manager retired, and then Ms. Nesbit became her assistant. Mrs. Harris has 14 years of experience in the bookstore, and she plans to let this be her job that she retires for who knows how many more years.

Ms. Nebit has been working here for 10 years. She was bored when she first retired and saw the job opportunity. She seems to have no plans of leaving quite yet, as she stated, “Well at this rate I’ll have a walker in here!” Her goal here at Ironwood is just to do her job better than she already has. She says the positives of working here are the teachers, students, administration and claims tackling challenging events keeps everything running smooth in the bookstore.

Mrs. Harris stated that the positives of working in her position are also the students and getting to make relationships with them. She said in an interview that, “The students really make up this campus.” Meanwhile her challenges are when things get overly busy it becomes a lot, but she says she is prepared to handle this and trained to handle a lot of work. Her goals are to keep growing past challenges and learn from what she can from those around her.

Mrs. Harris has two kids, has been married twenty-five years, and has many pets including dogs and tortoises. Ms. Nesbit also has two children, she has a dog currently named Bitsy that she loves dearly, she loves television and going out with her friends. Both bookstore ladies had three things in common, they love working, people, and animals!

In conclusion, our two lovely bookstore ladies, Mrs. Harris and Ms. Nebit, are very genuine and amazing people so when you need to pay off a class fee or get a new ID, do not be scared to talk to our lovely bookstore staff.
