Art Therapy Will Soon Be Offered At Ironwood!

It has been quite stressful these past few months with everything that is going on, and for many it can be hard to sit and talk with someone about it. For the people going through this, there is now a club that can help.

For many students it can be hard to let someone know how they are feeling, but it is very important to express how we feel so that it does not pile up and end in something worse. Art can allow these people to express themselves in a way that they cannot with words, so it only made sense for Mrs. Voelker and Mrs. Garbey to create an art therapy club. Art has helped plenty of individuals already, art therapy club will just be a way to put this help into action. Mrs. Voelker stated that she brought this club to the campus so we can have something different as an opportunity for expression through creativity while there also being a therapeutic aspect.

Any and all students are welcome to this club, including both those online and in person. The materials that may be needed are provided for everyone that will attend and some materials will even be sent home to students who are taking online classes rather than in person. For the materials being sent home, Mrs. Voelker has talked about dropping them right off at students’ houses or leaving them at the front office for pick up. Of course, you could also bring your own materials if you would like. For example, if there are certain art materials you feel better or more comfortable using, it is perfectly okay to bring those with you.

The Art Therapy Club will be held in room 612, which is Mrs. Garbey’s room, and the first meeting will be on Tuesday, January 12. This is the Tuesday after we come back from break. Meetings will be every Tuesday after school from 2:30 to 3:30. Mrs. Voelker also wanted students to note that the club is open commitment, so there is no need to attend every week. Aso, it is important to know that because this club is a form of therapy you will need to have your parents sign a permission form for you to be able to attend the meetings. These can be found from an email from Mrs. Voelker or there are also paper copies in room 612.

I know times are stressful, but there is always help that you can reach out to. So, if you are going through a hard time and need an easy way to express yourself, perhaps join the art therapy club to help you through these times.
