In a ship, a crew of astronauts soar through space with no destination, attempting to maintain their ship, but their lives are lost one by one until there is only one that remains. The murderer lies among them. This is the plot of the one-hit wonder game, Among Us. If you liked The Thing, then you will love this game. Just like The Thing, this game features a normal group of people who are eventually killed off by a creature or murderer who lie among them.
Among Us was released by InnerSloth on June 15, 2018 on iOS and Android as a multiplayer game. You can choose whether to play locally or online. There are different maps as well. Before a round starts, you can customize your own little astronaut buddy with little hats, clothes, and even pets! For example, some of the items include a banana peel hat, a tuxedo suit, and a little astronaut buddy that follows you around the ship. When you die, your pets sit by your corpse until the end of the game. When everyone has finished loading into the game and the timer stops, the round begins. The players will get a screen displaying what role they will play in the round, either a crewmate or imposter. There can be up to three imposters per game. All players look normal, there is no telling who has which role. As a crewmate, players will go around the ship completing their tasks necessary to win the game without getting killed. All crewmates must complete their tasks in order to win the game, this does not include the dead crew members. As an imposter, players will go around the ship faking tasks in order to convince the crewmates that they are one of them. The goal of the imposter is to kill everyone on the ship, so they must kill without being caught. Imposters are able to climb in vents and sabotage the ship (turning lights and power off, causing meltdowns, etc.) to aid them in their spree. If bodies are found or a crew member witnesses a killing or venting, crewmates are able to report the body, which then triggers an emergency meeting. During an emergency meeting, players discuss and vote who they think the imposter(s) may be. One by one, players are kicked out of the ship. Once they are ejected, the screen states whether they were the imposter or not. After the game is won or lost, a screen indicates who won and who were the imposters.
The game has also won the Game Award for Best Mobile Game, Best Multiplayer Game, and Kids’ Choice Awards for Favorite Video Game. It was also a game that was a hit for a few months, with many youtubers playing it and memes everywhere about the game, but quickly died several weeks after. It seems like barely anyone plays on it anymore. In my opinion, Among Us is a very fun and strategic game, especially with friends. I would not recommend playing this game without any friends because it can get really toxic and it is a bit more difficult to communicate with people online. I rate this game 7/10. It was a good game, but not something I would play too much of.
