Ironwood Eagle's Eye

A New Year

Another year in high school has passed us by and as we continue on our, hopefully, four-year journey, Ironwood High School welcomes a new batch of freshmen.

As it seems time waits for no one, our little brothers, sisters, and those alike are growing up and have started the first official phase of young adulthood; freshman year in high school. Usually, a freshman can be spotted a mile away. The mix of enthusiasm and fear on their faces typically betrays them. However, I will give credit where credit is due. When I interviewed a variety of freshmen, I was surprised to find that they are enjoying this year so far.

Best friends Precious Pierce and Evelyn Guerrero were all smiles when I interviewed them about their time so far at Ironwood. They both like the classes they are in and the teachers they have. Precious and Evelyn’s hopes for this year are to, “...make a lot of friends and [for] this year to be successful…and fun!” Freshman Tristan Collins has a more even-handed perspective of the start of this year. He feels “like it’s boring sometimes in classes, but at the same time you can have fun with your friends…”. Opposite Tristan, Rylee Maggard says, “It’s going pretty good, I mean I was overwhelmed at first”. Nonetheless, she looks forward to growing as an Eagle!

Student Council members Conner Crane, Senator, and Violet Luna, President, offer their views as student leaders moving into their sophomore year of high school. Conner talks about the familial feel of Student Council and what it is like to be a part of the club. “We’re very close to each other. We have a great bond and I’m really excited to see everything that goes on.” Violet is confident about plans for the year. She says, “The visions are very energetic, and [we are] trying to get more people involved and just including everyone”. Getting involved can be terrifying to most people, but Violet and Conner say “Go for it!” “Don’t be scared of failure ‘cause if you say you can do it then you can do it. If you say you can’t do it then you can’t do it. Just go for it. Just do it,” Violet advises. As student leaders, Violet and Conner are seeing a change in students this year. People are being more inclusive and are more positive toward others.

There seems to be a lot to look forward to this year at Ironwood. Let us stay positive so that we can make this our best year yet!
