A Message From Mrs. Robb

Victoria Harkless

Staff Reporter

COVID-19 has cancelled a lot of things, most noticeably school. Everyone was affected by school closures, but teachers and school staff were hit especially hard.

Teachers are struggling with these changes, particularly those who are interested in students' lives and well-being. One teacher who stands out in my mind is Marcy Robb, so when I had the opportunity to write this story, I immediately went to her. In the last semester of the 2019-2020 school year, Mrs. Robb was supposed to be teaching AP biology, two IB classes and a Human Physiology class, now she is trying to teach them from home. Mrs. Robb is struggling to navigate the technology she is using for her classes, however, she keeps constant contact with her students to make sure they are okay.

When asked if she had anything to say to her students she said, “I miss you more than you can imagine!” She went as far as to say the relationships she has built with students is the main reason she wants to come back after retirement. Her seniors are an especially hard goodbye because she may not see them again in person. She hopes they learn something from this, like the fact life can change in an instant and nothing is ever guaranteed. She also wants them to continue making memories, though they may not be the ones that are expected, and make them count! Mrs. Robb is still promoting positive messages like “Make sure that you don’t sweat the small stuff, be kind to everyone, and MAKE A DIFFERENCE.”

Another thing that has come out of COVID-19 was the cancelation of the Boy’s Volleyball season, and Mrs. Robb just happens to be the head coach. To make things even harder, the basketball and volleyball teams were hoping to both take State Championships. She has watched several of these boys grow since their freshman year and looked forward to seeing their last highschool season. The 2019-2020 team is a team she will never forget, and Mrs. Robb wants to make sure the team knows she loves them. She believes there will be a silver lining and wants them to “Keep playing volleyball because you love it. Keep the friendships you have made and BEHAVE YOURSELVES.”

COVID-19 is affecting everyone, but it hit the hardest for teachers who are invested in their classrooms. Like Mrs. Robb, Ironwood is full of hard-working teachers who may be facing a difficult reality right now. Here at the Eagle’s Eye Newspaper we are hoping everyone is staying safe and that the teachers know we appreciate them.
