28,000 Employees Laid Off From Disney

The Covid-19 virus has hit a lot of people and companies really hard, but Disneyland California seems to be suffering the most of any Disney park or store.

As of October 5, 2020 Disney is going to be laying off twenty-eight thousand employees. Employees at risk of being laid off would be in the various theme parks, cruise lines, travel planning, timeshares and within the entertainment and product divisions. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure closed in the middle of March due to the coronavirus and has yet to reopen. According to the ocregisster.com, one in ten of these layoffs will come to employees of either of the California based parks.

The exact number of layoffs, specifically at Disneyland California, has yet to be released but the most current numbers say sixty-five hundred or more. Among those being laid off are forty chiefs, waiters, and sewards from the prestigious Club 33. The workers union did not specify how many other restaurants, sit down and otherwise, were going to be affected.

Thirteen hundred cooks, bartenders, bussers, will be laid off but there is no exact number from specific restaurants. Another twelve hundred of those laid off are bakers or other food service people like candy makers. These are people crucial to disney park and help to create the feeling of magic within the park.

Another 300 or more cashiers, stewards, and stockers that work at food vending carts will be laid off. Most of these people are part-time employees, but full time employees were not spared. Over 400 full-time people were laid off. The jobs of these 400 employees were unspecified but it is still a big deal for them to be laid off.

A couple of the disney employees were big on tiktok, specifically Ryan Kelly (@youthpastorryan on tiktok, and instagram). He told “happy wholesome storytimes” from his time working at disneyland. He was laid off officially on October 3rd, but has continued to make light of the situation and tell the happy stories.

The very unfortunate event of being laid off hit many people within the disney community, but hopefully the parks will be open again soon so more people do not have to be laid off.
