2020 SMooCH for Kids Concert

Merrick Deneen

Staff Reporter

Every year the Seattle Children’s Hospital teams up with indie rock stations Sub Pop Records and KEXP to host the annual Smooch for Kids music festival to fundraise money for their Uncompensated Care program. This program has provided more than $146 million care to patients and their families who need it most. Smooch alone has raised more than $18 million and this year they are hosting a virtual lineup that will surely impress.

Every year this event hosts local bands and big names such as Naked Giants, The Young Evils, J. Mascis, Macklemore, and Sir Mix-a-Lot. The venue, The Showbox, is a hotspot in the Seattle music scene and is known for being open to host any type of band that plays any type of music. The variety truly shines when looking at the artists that have come on stage in the past.

This year it will take place on December 5th at 7:30 pm PST over at The Showbox. There will be performances by rock player Jason Isabell, indie group Dude York and a few more local artists that are coming to help fundraise. One of the more exciting appearances will be from Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth as well as J. Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. These are two heavy hitters in the indie rock scene and a combination like this will surely bring in funding. Although everything is a bit strange this year the commitment to supporting patients and their families has brought together a great lineup and will make Smooch 2020 something truly special.

The event will also be live streamed. Those who wish to watch can to smoochforkids.com and click on the button for the live stream. There you will be to KEXP’s YouTue channel where you can join and donate.
