Why I Love Rob Zombie's Halloween

Staff Reporter

Rob Zombie's Halloween is one of the best horror movies I have seen. It is scary and fun to watch. People don't like his approach but I think it is quite brilliant. I really love the casting choice, Tyler Mane is scary, tall, and intimidating as Michael Myers. They criticize him for his style of directing and the characters of his films but his characters are either hateable or lovable, which is how characters should be. You need a good mix which his movie has. He tried to make it his own, but still using the original concepts even though his movies do have flaws in both his Halloween films. His films are the dirt under your fingernails, the kind of movies that leave an impression which is what most horror remakes during that time failed to do.

It is not the original movie, it takes the idea of Carpenters film but it is a more raw and dirty psycho-fantasy drawn out of the Carpenters idea. Even though the first half is the Zombies idea, one big change to his film is Michael’s childhood. Instead of making him a lifeless child they gave him a personality and made him crazy. Daeg Faerch plays the younger Michael and it is a really good casting choice, he sells the craziness of young Michael. This movie changes the way of the franchise. It follows a different path from any previous films. It is one of my favorite films. I love the vision of Rob Zombie. The casting choice is perfect. It may have the ups and downs but it is still pretty solid to me. No, the film is not everyone’s favorite or the fans’ go-to movie but I appreciate what the film is and what it was trying to be. Critics have rated the film real low and given 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb but I rank it 8.7 out of 10. I do not find it boring, I find it pretty fun to watch. Overall I love this film.
