Why Your Favorites Suck!!: Red Delicious

Red Delicious is one of the most basic kinds of apple found in stores nationwide. It is a staple of American culture and some would even consider it irreplaceable. I find Red Delicious to be plain, boring, and with a bad texture that makes it one of the worst kinds of apple.

Red Delicious is an especially plain apple. It has a faintly sweet flavor but not much in comparison to those of golden apples and certainly does not have the same sour taste like a green apple either. Having the apple be manufactured for the public has led it to be a watered-down version of its competitors. In the apple’s plainness, Red Delicious is one of the worst types of apple.

Red Delicious is also just boring. It is the most common apple and is always plentiful as the most basic apple out there. As an American staple, everyone and their mother enjoys a Red Delicious apple and any specialty is completely removed. This is of course in comparison to other types of apples as well such as Fuji apples or Honeycrisp which is often sold right next to Red Delicious. In this removed specialty and commonality, it is one of the more boring apples.

Said apple type also has a beaded texture. Through each time I have tried to indulge, the texture has proven grainy and occasionally soft, certainly not satisfying. Its gross texture is unpleasant and unlike that of the crisp and clean Granny Smith or Gala. Red Delicious has a bad texture that adds to the reasons for it being one of the worst kinds of apple.

Red Delicious is one of the worst kinds of apple. This is proven in its plainness, boring nature, and bad texture in its staple traits as the American symbol it is.
