The Black Veil Brides Album Relaunch

Hayley Kilday

Staff Reporter

In 2010 the band Black Veil Brides had little to no fans, flash forward to 2020 they now have thousands of fans across the world. To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the album that started it all, We Stitch These Wounds, Black Veil Brides decided to re-record the entire album from start to finish. They have cleverly re-named this album Re-Stitch These Wounds.

This “new” album has been years in the making because when the band first recorded it, they were extremely under budget and therefore, the record was extremely flawed. They got to press a big re-do button and finally make the album the way they wanted it from the beginning. A good example of this is Mortician’s Daughter (Overture III), they scraped the acoustic guitars and lyrics for a beautiful piano centric instrumental chalk full of swelling violins and cellos. They have not made many major changes; except the guitar solos are more prominent, and the rhythms and riffs have better flow.

For this album to be mostly recorded and tracked at home the production quality is astonishing. It sounds like it was done in a professional recording studio. All of the instruments and vocals can be heard clearly and the call to arms The Outcasts is even more haunting and makes you anticipate the rest of the album. Speaking of the rest of the album, even though the changes on most of the songs were not very big ones, if you look at them close enough you can see the bands growth over the years. Another great example of this is the song Perfect Weapon. I am a little biased when it comes to it mostly because it is my favorite song but if you listen to the original compared to the new one you can hear how much the band has improved, especially the lead singer. At the time he was only 19 and did not know how to properly control and take care of his voice, the vocals were very rough and he has improved tremendously.

In the past, Black Veil’s former record label denied them the ability to re-record We Stitch These Wounds because they thought it would not bring in the big bucks like all their other records. They finally got their chance to do what they have wanted to do for years because, earlier in the year their contract with the label expired and Sumerian Records, who has wanted the band for quite a few years, finally got to sign them on. The first thing the band proposed they do is the re-imagining of We Stitch These Wounds, Sumerian was completely on board and provided them with enough funds to do so. With quarantine going on they had quite a bit of time to get it exactly the way they wanted it.
