The Benefits of Reading

We all love a good read; whether it is fiction, the news, a food blog, or a poetry review, doing an additional reading at the end of each day has great benefits.

The more you read, the more you can learn from it. The more people read, the more inspiration they can achieve naturally. Reading also inspires your thoughts and perspectives. According to duxbury.k12.ma.us, “[People] learn about people, places, and events outside their own experience through reading. They are exposed to ways of life, ideas, and beliefs about the world, which may differ from those surrounding them.” Reading helps build a stronger sense of comprehending and understanding what is being read.

Reading can also relax the mind and body. According to takingcharge.csh.umn.edu, “Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles. A 2009 study at the University of Sussex found that reading can reduce stress by up to 68%. It works better and faster than other relaxation methods, such as listening to music or drinking a hot cup of tea.” Reading will help prevent possible diseases caused by stress and allow a person to have a more open mind since they are not focusing on their worries.

Lastly, reading will improve your vocabulary. In support of this, duxbury.k12.ma.us says, “it leads to more highly-developed language skills and improves the child's ability to write well. This is because children learn new words as they read, but also because they unconsciously absorb information as they read about things. [For example,] like how to structure sentences and how to use words and language effectively.” Reading requires us to look at words that we might have not seen or heard recently. Having a wider vocabulary can be a benefit in conversing as it gives you more words to express your ideas with and in learning as it is more likely you will recognize the words being used to teach you.

Reading is much more than just enjoying a good book. It is working out the brain and it makes you stronger.
