Stay Social While Social Distancing

The Coronavirus pandemic has seemingly taken over our lives, especially our relationships. With our schools closing and the encouragement of nationwide self-quarantine, our social life is limited to our families. Now, if we are being honest, most of us are fine with minimal social interaction since many teenagers do not care about school and prefer to hang out with their group(s) of friends. Though, even if it may not be too favorable of an option, it is still necessary for each of us to have active social lives through this pandemic.

One way to maintain a good social life is to embrace video chatting and talking to your friends over the phone. It is pretty obvious that I am not the first person to come up with this, but it can go a long way to see a friendly face once in a while. Not only can you just plain facetime or video chat with your friends, but you can go on to sites and download extensions such as Watch2Gether, Gaze, Twoseven, and Netflix Party. These sites and extensions allow you to sync streaming so that you and your friends can binge YouTube videos, TV shows, and movies while interacting with each other and maintaining social distancing.

Another great way to interact socially during this time is to get a penpal. You can get a penpal who has similar interests as you through instagram fan accounts on instagram, or even logging on to websites that are dedicated to matching people with strangers to email and/or write to year-round. A good website that supports this would be Worldwide Snail Mail Pen Pals, as they’ve helped many people find friends across the world. Another way to make friends from different places is through online gaming. Through online games, you can meet a variety of gamers who have the same interest in gaming as you.

If texting seems to be more your thing, going from normal texting to sending voice and video messages to your friends can be a real gamechanger. Interacting with your friends on a more personal level, compared to just typing, can help not only improve your relationship with someone you may not know very well, but can also add a more personal touch to your online conversations. Lastly, it could be a good idea to keep an eye out for weird and creative online events that interest you. Social distancing has caused people to become more creative than ever before, which means that there's no shortage of online creative events that you could take part in, and even potentially meet new people and make new friends. Events such as online classes, to virtual museum outings, not going outside to make new friends has never been easier! Thank you eagles and stay safe.
