Review of Mr. Ironwood and Powder Puff 2021

One of the most exciting things you can do in your senior year is watch or take part in Powderpuff, the flip event where junior and senior girls go head to head in football and the junior and senior boys are invited to cheer them on as cheerleaders, and Mr. Ironwood, our very own male beauty pageant.

Mr. Ironwood took place on Monday, March 29th, kicking off Spirit Week for the rest of the school. Mr. Ironwood follows 8 contestants through an opening dance, a talent competition, muscle flex, and formal wear before the competition gets as awards are handed out and things get more tense. After the formal wear event takes place, the contestants are subjected to the first round of eliminations where 5 of them were eliminated. This year, the final 3 contestants were asked a question before the runner-ups were announced, and finally, the winner was crowned.

All of Mr. Ironwood is done in good fun and goes to show just how creative the population of Ironwood is. The contestants of this year's event were Will Haskell, Nehemiah ‘Nemo’ Lindo, Luigui Equihua, Tobias ‘Toby’ McWatters, Junior Shurma, Ethan Cammos, Ethan Shreeve, and Steinar Christianson. The Judges for the evening were Mrs. Schmitt, Mrs. Voelker, Mrs. Owen, Ms. Lewis, Ms. Huerta (also known as Alexa), Myrna, Ms. Wolley, and Mr. Jenkins. Another important member of staff who donated their time, and humor, to Mr. Ironwood, as the head Varsity football coach, Mr. Rizzo, who narrated the whole thing.

The production was put on by Ironwood’s Student Council, more specifically by our senior class. Toni DeMarco, Alexis Moran, Tobias McWatters, Zuleika Espinoza, Sofia Closs-Barsema, Ethan Campos, and Graham Turner were also given production credits. While all of the contestants did amazing and their bravery should be commemorated, Steinar Christianson won the title of Mr. Ironwood 2021.

Powderpuff is something you have to go to at least once in your high school career. The atmosphere is more laid back than a normal football game but it is just as competitive and the cheerleaders are hilarious to watch. Both the senior and junior class teams were fired up and ready for this game. At halftime, the seniors were leading 14-0 but the juniors were making a comeback. In the end, the senior girls claimed a hard-fought victory and the juniors put out their best efforts.

What is one similarity between these extracurricular activities? The Student Council is in charge of both of them. The Student Council put out a tremendous effort when creating all of the events and it pays off. The Student Council is trying their best to make the class of 2021 have a fulfilling year and did an amazing job by giving us a final Spirit Week, with all the extracurricular events, that we will remember forever.
