Foodie Review: Rebel Lounge

Merrick Deneen

Staff Reporter

The Rebel Lounge is a local venue that has brought tons of local musicians to the valley as well as tons of big bands, but since the pandemic it has had to shut down its live performances. They have been able to stay in business throughout the past few months using virtual performances and community donations. Things have been getting tough for the local business, but a local coffee bar has opened up some new opportunities for the spot to thrive. Last week the Rebel Lounge teamed up with Reap and Sow Coffee Bar to open up a breakfast and brunch restaurant. I had the privilege to stop by last night and taste some of the food and coffee that they had to offer and there is some good stuff and some bad stuff.

For one, the burritos are the bomb. They offer a chorizo burrito with eggs and hash browns, as well as a green chile burrito with shredded beef and salsa. One thing that you should know is that it is more of a breakfast/ brunch restaurant, so the portions are a bit smaller. I would recommend picking up two different burritos so you can taste both of them and leave with a full stomach. The burritos come with some great chips and their salsa smacks.

While the food was amazing one of the more worrying things about the place was the people, or the lack of. I came in at around 9 PM so I figured for a night bar there should be a bit of a turnout inside, but the place was empty. There were employees that were ready to help and were very welcoming, but it was a bit strange being the only person in a restaurant eating a burrito.

Overall, the food was great, the proportions are just a bit small, and I’m sure that it will be a great local spot for the community once word gets out and some more people start coming in. Hopefully this collaboration will inspire more local places to start getting creative and we can keep these valuable community spots going.
