Fall Guys is the latest video game craze that everyone seems to be playing. Is it a solid game that will last or will it just be short lived hype?
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a video game that is free on PC and for those who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus. It is a battle royal/ survival game where 60 people slowly get eliminated as they run through obstacles and puzzles until there is only one winner. As far as design goes, the game features every color of the rainbow on both the characters and the setting. All the models also feature a smooth, clean style that helps showcase the fun colors and patterns. The developer of this newly popular game is Mediatonic.
Frequent players of the game explained the appeal behind it and why it is so popular, with one of them saying, “It’s really the difficulty of it that’s fun, and it’s better when your friend sucks at the game so you can see him fail”. See, the concepts of physics that most people are used to do not apply in Fall Guys. The way characters interact with each other and their surroundings can be described as floppy and is usually quite funny to view. In the future, it seems the developers may add more aspects of the game to keep people interested. It is possible that the developers might follow the same progression as Fortnite, where there are seasons that provide rewards and players can spend money on cosmetics.
With games like this it is difficult to tell how long the appeal will last but at the moment it is blowing on both Twitch and YouTube. It will be interesting to see how this game will stand the test of time.
