Fall Festivities Going on Near You!

Bianca Harkless

Editor-In-Chief

Fall is one of the most anticipated seasons. From the changing leaves, to the reintroduction of the pumpkin spice flavor, to pumpkin patch openings, people are constantly finding new and exciting things to do during this transitional season. During this time, places like Tolmachoff Farms, Schnepf Farms and Mortimer Farms are all holding Fall Festivals.

Tolmachoff Farms, located roughly 30 minutes out of town, has a bunch of fun fall festivities like a “U-Pick” season. Although they did not have their fall/winter harvest crops updated on their website, tolmachoff-farms.com, their list of summer crops was extensive. With options like a variety of squash, cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, peppers and eggplants just to name a few. Another thing that Tolmachoff Farms is known for their pumpkin patch and their haunted corn maze. During their Fall Festival, they will have a variety of different activities for those who are not interested in getting scared walking through corn, like a petting zoo, a train ride, a hay pyramid and many other fun things. For $15 dollar, you can enjoy all of the festivities that they offer.

At Schnepf Farms, schnepffarms.com, they are also doing a “U-Pick” option with some of their crops being listed on their website. Some of these crops that really caught my attention were tomatillos, green onion, eggplant and lavender. Starting on October 1st and going until November 1st, they have an event called the Pumpkin and Chili Party. At this event, they will have a 4-acre corn maze, a pumpkin patch, pigs races, and, of course, chili. During this event, on Friday and Saturday nights, the farm will also be doing fireworks to entertain the crowd. You can do all of that at Schnepf Farms, which is located about an hour and half away, for $23 dollars - $25 dollars depending on the day and the time you go.

Mortimer Farms is also doing a Fall Festival. Much like the other two farms, they also have a pick your own crop option. As listed on their website, there available crops are strawberries, eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, okra, beats, a number of herbs, okra and flowers. For those who are not interested in picking their own crops, Mortimer Farms also provides a ‘Country Store’ where they sell the crops alongside pies, meats and bakery items which are also listed on their website (www.mortimerfarmsaz.com). Unlike the other two, their pumpkin patch opens much earlier, September 18th, but concludes at the same time as the others, November 1st. While picking some fresh grown fruits and vegetables or pumpkins, you can also enjoy a hay ride, a pig race, zip-lines and a ropes course. With the Mortimer Farm being around 2 and half hours away, you can enjoy the change in weather and the lovely farm. You experience all of this fun for $14.50 dollars per person.

Since we have all been cooped up in the house for such a long period of time, spending time on a farm picking vegetables and fruits in the fresh air seems like a safe haven. This could be an amazing thing to do with family, friends, or even a significant other. Regardless of who you go with or to which family farm, they will all be amazing regardless and a great way to get into the fall spirit when the time comes.
