Does Parental Pressure Play A Role In Their Child's Career Choice?

Today, numerous teens get pressured by their parents to go to college, get a good job, save money, and many more ‘adult’ things.Teens have the ability to say what they want or where they want to go. However, parental pressure plays a tremendous role in their son's or daughter's life and can over extend their teens abilities.

According to theadamskilt “How can a student be expected to know what career or profession they want to pursue for the rest of their lives at such a young age? As an outcome of this pressure, many parents take it upon themselves to select their child's career and what college they should attend to offer the most flourishing lives.”

Parents do have a right to say what they want their kids to do, but they need to realize that their children will grow up eventually. If the parents are still making decisions for them, how will the child learn for when they are older?

There are two sides to every story; for example, some people would disagree that parents play an essential role in their children's future. On the other hand, others would argue that parents of high-achieving students play a role by pressuring their children to succeed at a crazy high level or to fulfill the parents' demands. I think parents do play a major role when it comes to their child’s future.

Parents who have intelligent children are being accused of pushing their children to perform at high levels sooner than other parents. However, according to publicschoolreview.com there is proof that parent factors have a positive relationship with their children's accomplishments. There has also been considerable concern that parents' expectations create tension and foster performance anxiety in their children. I think parents should be supportive and stand by their kids to help them for the better.

According to qualifax.ie "Parents serve as a major influence in their children's career development and career decision- making. Parents want their children to find happiness and success in life, and one factor which influences happiness and success is career choice."

I agree with the quote because most parents want their kids to discover happiness and be successful, but most parents do not understand that their child needs to find happiness on their own to learn for the future. Their child needs to know how to be prosperous on his or her own because that is what they will have to do for the rest of their lives. Parents cannot make all the decisions.
