Disneyland Reopening

Hayley Kilday

Staff Reporter

As we all know Disney World has been closed since quarantine started five months ago. It finally re-opened in early July and due to COVID-19, new rules and guidelines have been added to the Disney parks.

Originally before entering the parks you would stand in one of the many ques for security to search your bags and or pockets for any hidden paraphernalia. Now, before entering you must get a temperature screening. If you have a temperature of 100 or above Disney cast members will have you try to cool off in one of their many cooling tents and after a few minutes if you still have a high temperature you will not be permitted to enter any of the parks. Along with the many temperature screenings security will no longer be reaching into your bags. They will be moving your belongings around with wooden sticks to avoid contact with your personal things.

Not only are Disney’s security measures getting tighter, but they are also hammering down on their dress code. Now guests and cast members are always required to wear a mask in the park, the only people who do not need masks are children of the age 2 and under. There are some restrictions regarding masks, such as, if you are getting something to eat or drink you have to sit down and eat, you cannot “sip and stroll”. Another restriction with the masks is that it must be made of at least 2 layers of breathable material and it must cover your mouth, nose, be secured under your chin and fit snugly against the side of your face. This does not include bandanas, face shields or any masks made of flimsy material. The last thing that is prohibited on the masks are valves, any holes in the masks, aside from the ear loops of course, are forbidden.

These are not the only changes that have been made to the Disney guidelines. Sanitation stations have been installed all around the parks and at the entrances to ride ques. Not all the changes Disney has made to its Florida parks have been physical. Beginning on September eighth, hours have been cut for Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood studios. Not only that, but certain stores have ques for you to stand in and quite a few are even closed. Disney is going through extreme measures to make sure all guests and cast members stay healthy and safe. The reopening of Disney World is a huge effort by a big corporation to prove it can operate safely and can continue entertaining millions of families in times of uncertainty. It is safe to say that after months of quarantine going back to the most magical place on earth can be full of refreshing and wholesome fun.
