I have a love-hate relationship with this quarantine. On one side, I love having a laid-back schedule, but like many other teenagers, I am facing never-ending boredom. I try to be active and healthy, but to be honest, my COVID-19 lifestyle is anything but healthy.
For starters, I eat a lot, and the one thing this quarantine has helped is my growing addiction to consume. I eat all day, every day, and no matter how many snacks I make or bags of chips I finish off, I cannot seem to get full. What is worse is that with each meal I make, comes a set of dirty dishes that I must clean. You can probably guess how much washing I did per day, but rest assured my fingers are still intact and ready for tomorrow’s dishes.
Last Monday marked both the beginning of online school and the official end of real school, making it a record breaking high on the “worst days of my life” list. Sure, getting braces on for the first time was bad, but this was nuclear. As a junior graduating early, I always felt distant from the feeling of being a senior. So, I was determined to at least go to prom as a final hurrah to my high school career. We all know how this ends, so I will spare you from the gruesome details of my reaction.
Before I go further, let me just say, this new lifestyle has some positives. I can finally sleep in and take a nap whenever I want. As you can tell, sleep is a top priority in my life, right next to Netflix and Boba, so in that sense, the quarantine has been great. Does it outweigh the rest though? I will let you decide.
Anyway, I tried to make my day to day schedule a little more exciting by trying crafts, with a heavy emphasis on ‘trying’. For example, I started painting my wall. They are still white blobs for now, but I am sure I will get to them at some point. I mean, all we have is time now. I also started sewing handmade masks from old T-shirts. I have only made one so far even though I keep cutting up my shirts. Like I said, I have time.
Ok, all jokes aside, this is a crazy time. Many of us are bored or even scared. Remember, stay calm and enjoy your COVID-19 lifestyle one snack at a time.
