Can Money Buy Happiness?

Mathew Futch

Staff Reporter

Money runs the world. There is no doubt about this. Just look at everything around you and you will see this is true. For example, money buys food, shelter, and personal needs such as electronics. Though people argue that money can not buy you happiness and that there are things money can not buy, with how today's society improves this does seem to be leaning more and more toward being able to buy happiness.

Money does not buy real friends, money can not buy a real family, but think about it: it can buy you everything you ever wanted, you can live your childhood dream, do what you want when you want to. People associate money with greed, but they could invest in charities, solve many hunger problems, and overall save many peoples’ lives. With money, you can help a lot of good people to do a lot of great things, investing your money into compelling causes is not against the rules of buying happiness. Using money to make others happy could be one way to make you happy.

Let us look at this from a researcher’s perspective, for example, Bryan Podvin, as said according to insider.com “How much money a person needs to be happy varies. Happiness may depend on how much money is required to cover your own basic needs and what brings you joy personally. For one person, that might be season tickets to the Yankees. For someone else, it might be a massage once a month or a new pair of running shoes. Ultimately, money can increase the potential for life satisfaction, depending on how you spend it. If you spend money on experiences or items that align with your values, you will increase your happiness.”. Now analyze what he means. He is saying you can buy experiences, to simplify everyone always wanted to do one thing that they could never do due to lack of funds.

To conclude this money can buy happiness, even with today technology can clone your pet when they die to get a brand new one, and better yet you can buy friends with the help AI, so time progress this statement seems to fall more to being able to buy oneself happiness.
