This school year, restrictions have been lifted and we are allowed to go back to doing our normal activities, like clubs, fundraisers, and performances. With that said, I interviewed Ms. Lanning about her plans for Dance and how the semester is going so far.
She started off with, “Dance is going really well, we’re already starting dances for our concert seating.” This semester they are performing at the homecoming assembly and having a concert. They have already finished planning out the performance for the assembly and are excited to showcase what they have been working on.
The goals they have for this year are to get beginners to a performance level and in the performance class, they hope to have an amazing concert. Ms. Lanning explains, “They’re very excited to be able to do everything and get back on track with packing out the auditorium, and no limitations, and being on the stage without a doubt.”
The upcoming concert will be “based on music legends, and music legends who are no longer with us.” This includes those who have lived a long and good career and others who have left us too soon. Some artists that will be featured in the performance are Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, and other top 10 charting artists. Ms. Lanning also said that there will be, “older artists you might even have to look up because you know the song, you just aren’t really sure who the person is because they’re not this generation.” Different genres of dance will be presented in the concert, classical, modern hip-hop styles, contemporary, and more. The concert dates are going to be November 17th, 18th, and 19th.
Fundraising-wise, concerts will be their main focus, but they do have a few other plans brewing for the next semester.
Overall they are excited to perform once more with access to a bigger audience Ms. Lanning promises that the concert will be, “Legendary.”
